ASSESSMENTS & TESTING

We provide mental health assessment and testing for children, adolescents, teenagers and adults in New Jersey and New York. If you believe you or your child suffers from a mental health, developmental, or learning condition, then please contact us to determine whether an assessment could be the first step to resolving your challenge.

Types of assessments include: Intellectual, Cognitive, Academic, and Social/Emotional Functioning. Each mental health assessment is based on the client's specific needs and concerns and includes comprehensive treatment recommendations for multiple settings (home, school, work, therapy, etc.). Parents often bring their children in to get tested for learning disabilities.

The mental health testing process begins by clarifying the reason for doing the evaluation. Based on the reason for testing, age of the client, and past history, we’ll use cognitive and/or mental health assessment tools to assess intellectual and/or emotional functioning.

Cognitive assessments generally address academic achievement and cognitive processing such as attention, memory and social cognition. Mental health assessments identify issues related to behavior and emotional aspects. These assessments, together with a detailed history, can help answer questions about learning disabilities or competency. Additionally, testing can help identify if there are issues with memory or decision making processes, or if an individual has a learning disability or ADHD.

The results of these assessments can be very valuable; however, many individuals find the tasks involved in the assessment process challenging and tiring, sometimes spanning several hours. Therefore, we work carefully with each client to arrange testing session lengths that allow you (or your child) to perform at your very best.

Following the mental health assessment procedure, you’ll receive a comprehensive report that includes a list of assessments that were utilized, detailed results of each assessment, a discussion of these results including strengths and weaknesses, and recommended goals and objectives. We will then review the results of the mental health testing in a feedback session.

Psychological Testing and Assessment For Children/Adolescents/Teenagers

We work under the auspices of a licensed clinical psychologist who is responsible for the assessment.

If conducting assessments with your child, we will provide you with ample guidance on how to prepare your child to approach the testing as a helpful tool (rather than a diagnostic “what is wrong with me?” experience) and ensure they are set up for success.

The bottom line is that mental health testing and assessment can help identify the way that they learn best, and help them optimize those strengths so they can be successful in a school setting.

You, can be assured, as the parent, that we’ll communicate clearly with you every step of the way and help you feel at ease with the testing process. We’re here to support you and help your child succeed.
